My contribution to Scottish Surfing:
Having grown up in Glasgow, I was one of those kids that always had a curiosity about surfing, but never really thought it was a possibility in cold dreich Scotland. It wasn’t until university I found that it wasn’t just possible it was plentiful (during the winters at least…)
I spent a few summers working in surfcamps during that time and it became a full on obsession.
During the COVID years that itch was hard to scratch, so myself and a few friends decided to start a new project. Something to keep us busy. That became Release Boards! We have now spent a few years building our own equipment; fins, boards, foil boards. Experimenting with materials, constructions and resins. I have loved having a space to focus on some practical and creative engineering and design.
Having a board and fins you have designed, laminated, sanded under your feet is very satisfying.
I just need to get barreled on a Release and I will be content…
